Abstract: Based on the precision cutting, ultra precision cutting and polishing technology, the two new methods for the characterization of metallographic microstructure of cast soft metallic materials were introduced. The grinding step which was always used in routine characterization method was abandoned. The ultra precision cutting technology or the precision cutting combining with polishing was used in the method, which can solve the difficulties of hard preparation, poor repetition and stability of metallographic specimen in soft metallic materials. The preparation efficiency and authenticity of the appearance of metallographic microstructure morphology enhance.
