Abstract: The research status of material cogging was discussed based on three different cogging methods: forging,rolling and extrusion, and the main factors of the three cogging methods were introduced. The advantages and disadvantages of the three cogging methods were simply analyzed and compared. The research status of forging cogging and forging penetration of materials was expounded emphatically. The influencing factors, theoretical models and research methods of forging penetration were discussed. Finally, the significance of the study of forging permeability was indicated, some problems existing in the current research of material cogging were pointed out, and the theoretical research of forging permeability and the existing problems that need to be solved were prospected.
