Abstract:
WC hard particles with high hardness and high melting point and Ni powder with good toughness were selected as cladding materials, and dense WC reinforced Ni matrix composite coating was prepared on the surface of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy by laser cladding technology. The microstructure, phase, composition and hardness of the cladding coating were studied by optical microscope, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive spectrometer and microhardness instrument. The results show that WC metal matrix composite coating is successfully prepared on Ti-6A1-4V substrate with WC ∶Ni mass ratio of 7∶3. The coating is mainly composed of Ti
2Ni, NiTi, WC, W
2C, TiC, α(Ti), rod-shaped and dendritic black bright TiC, and massive WC are distributed in the whole coating and some needles are distributed on the side near the interface matrix. The average microhardness of the coating is about 760 HV and the hardness of the substrate is about 380 HV. The hardness of the coating is about twice higher than that of the substrate, and there is a smooth transition hardness gradient distribution from the coating surface to the substrate.
