Abstract
The friction and wear behavior of chromium coating on gun steel at different temperatures was investigated in order to provide a theoretical reference for the revelation of wear mechanism of chromium-plated gun barrels. The chromium coating was electroplated on CrNi3MoVA steel substrate, and then the high-speed reciprocating friction and wear tester and high precision electronic balance were employed to obtain the friction coefficient and wear mass of the chromium coating at different temperatures, respectively, and finally the scanning electron microscope(SEM), energy spectrum(EDS)were utilized to analyze the microstructure of the chromium coating before and after wear. The results show that the mean friction coefficient of the chromium coating shows a reducing tendency whilst its wear mass firstly reduces, and then increases as the temperature increases from room temperature to 300 ℃; there are obvious differences in main wear mechanism at different temperatures, namely respectively, adherent wear (room temperature), peeling wear (100 ℃), oxidization and adherent wear(200 ℃), and oxidization and abrasion wear(300 ℃).
