Study on Tensile Failure Behavior of Plain Woven Carbon Fiber Composites

    • Compared with traditional unidirectional laminates, woven composites have better impact resistance, which are widely used in aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding and other industrial fields. Based on the failure theory of micromechanics, the mechanical behavior of plain woven composites under tensile load was studied at multi-scale. The stress amplification factor was extracted from the representative volume element model to study the mesoscopic plain woven model, and the structural strength prediction and damage failure analysis were realized through ABAQUS platform coupled with UMAT subroutine. The tensile test of plain woven composites was simulated and analyzed. The results show that the matrix failure first appears in the weft fiber bundle, and the fiber failure concentrates in the crimp zone of the warp fiber bundle. The simulation analysis is in good agreement with the experimental results.
